How to buy?

It is the cheapest to buy online:
  • when booking your flight
  • via Manage booking - no later than 6 hours before departure
  • during Online check-in - from 48 hours and no later than 6 hour before departure
You can also buy baggage via:
  • our Customer Centre - up to 6 hours before departure and before completing online check-in
  • at the check-in desk at the airport - before completing online check-in and before the end of the flight check-in

Cost of excess baggage at the airport

  • From Dubai - AED 40 - AED 80 per kg (depending on your destination)
  • From other airports - different rates per kg in the local or an alternative currency.

Baggage guidelines

Hand baggage

You can carry one piece of hand baggage plus one of the following:

  • A laptop bag
  • A small ladies’ handbag or gentlemen’s satchel (25 × 33 × 20 cm)
  • One duty-free shopping bag

Your hand baggage must fit in the overhead locker or under the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage

Number of items

Up to 3 pieces with a combined weight of your baggage allowance.

Size limit

Maximum 159 cm (height + width + depth). Oversized bags will not be accepted.

Weight limit

Each piece must weigh less than 32 kg.

Packing requirements

  • Bags must have at least one flat surface and no loose straps.
  • Bags must be sturdy, securely packed, and capable of withstanding normal handling.
  • Items must not be strapped together.
  • A tag or secure label with your full name, address, and phone number must be placed both outside and inside each bag.

Important: Do not place valuables (e.g., money, jewellery, precious metals) or important documents (e.g., passports, ID, business papers) in your checked baggage.

Forbidden items

For safety reasons we don't allow some items to be packed in your checked baggage. Please read more about forbidden items in checked baggage.

Travelling with smart bags

You can carry a smart bag as both checked and hand baggage, provided you meet all requirements outlined by flydubai. Please read our restrictions for smart bags for more information.

Passengers travelling with infants

If you are travelling with an infant and baggage is included in your flight fare, you can carry 10kg checked baggage and 5kg hand baggage. The hand baggage must be smaller than 55 cm x 38 cm x 20 cm, so you can store it in the overhead locker or under the seat in front of you.

What happens if I arrive to the airport with more than 3 pieces of checked baggage?

If you arrive at the airport with more than 3 pieces of checked baggage, you will need to pay a one-time handling fee to check in the extra bags. Additionally, excess baggage rates will apply if the total weight for all pieces exceeds your baggage allowance, provided there's enough space on the flight.

What happens if I arrive at the airport and have not already bought a baggage allowance?

If you haven't bought a checked baggage allowance, you'll be charged a per kilo rate provided there's space in the hold for your bags. You can find excess baggage rates on our Airport baggage rates page.

How do I buy allowance for my flight?

You can buy a baggage allowance through: Manage your booking, the flydubai Customer Centre or one of our Travel shops.

I have an onward connection with flydubai booked under a separate ticket. Can you tag my bag to my final destination?

Yes, if your connecting flight is within 24 hours, we’ll be able to tag your bag to your final destination. This service is subject to handling fee and taxes, as applicable.

I have an onward connection with another airline booked under a separate ticket. Can you tag my bag to my final destination?

Yes, if your onward booking is with one of our codeshare or interline partner airlines and it’s within 24 hours, we’ll be able to tag your bag to your final destination. This service is subject to handling fee and taxes, as applicable. You can find the list of our interline partner airlines here.
