Emirates and flydubai partnership

What is the difference between a codeshare and an interline partnership?

A codeshare pertains to an airline marketing services on another airline’s fleet. For example, flydubai markets EK 001 DXB-LHR as FZ 6001.

Interline allows both airlines to book multiple segments to take advantage of each other’s network. It means an airline can connect you from one destination to another destination not on its network, via another airline, while keeping the entire booking in its name. For example, Emirates passengers can travel Cape Town to DXB on Emirates and in Dubai they transfer onto flydubai for the Dubai to Tbilisi segment of the journey.

What is the difference between the marketing carrier and the operating carrier?

The operating carrier is the carrier that physically operates the flight. The marketing carrier is the airline that sells the itinerary under their flight code. For example, a flydubai passenger is booked from Zanzibar to Manchester:

Zanzibar to Dubai – FZ688 flydubai operates the sector.

Dubai to Manchester – FZ6020 Emirates operates the sector and flydubai markets the sector.
