Brimming with culture, history and delicious cuisine, Hyderabad ticks all the boxes if you’re searching for an exotic travel destination. Tucked between north and south India, this city has plenty to offer every visitor.
Discover ancient Hyderabad
Uncover the history of this dynamic destination when you head to the ancient district. Start your exploration into Hyderabad’s past with a visit to Charminar, the city’s prized landmark. Sitting right at the heart of the bazaar district, the monument was erected in the 16th century to commemorate the founding of the city.
From there, head to the western edge of Hyderabad and see the impressive Golconda Fort. Perched atop a hill, the magnificent 16th century citadel looms over the surrounding landscape and stretches out for 11km, creating an impenetrable fortress. Although very old, Golconda Fort is a must-visit destination, offering incredible views across the Deccan foothills. Just 2km from Golconda Fort you’ll find the Qutb Shahi Tombs sitting in tranquil gardens. Seven of the eight Qutb Shahi rulers were buried here, making it a poignant historic landmark on your Hyderabad sightseeing list.
Shop like a local
Retail therapy in this city is like no other. Bazaars will be your go-to for all things shopping in Hyderabad. Named the “City of Pearls” the Lad Bazaar has helped this Indian metropolis cement that moniker. Explore the glistening stalls and barter for a deal just like the locals. While you shop, keep an eye out for Malkha cloth. Made entirely in Hyderabad, take this soft cloth home with you for a souvenir of your time in the city.
Indulge in local cuisine
When in Hyderabad, feasting on the local food is a must. Start off by sampling a delicious mirchi bhajji at one of the city’s many street stalls for a pre-dinner snack. These chilli fritters pack a powerful punch and are often served with a cup of tea. For your evening meal, tuck into a Hyderabadi biryani and enjoy a traditional meal, bursting with the colour flavours of the region.
