Visa

To visit Pakistan, you’ll need the correct visa in place. The only countries exempt from this are Iceland, Maldives, Nepal, Samoa, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago. The length of your stay with a visa depends on your home country, so check with your embassy before departure.

Currency

During your trip to Pakistan you’ll use the Pakistani Rupee (PKR), which can often be identified with an R symbol. Frequently used notes include: 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 Rupees.

Language

Pakistan’s official languages are Urdu and English. Regional languages also include Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi and Balochi.

Weather

Visitors to Pakistan can expect a mostly dry, hot desert climate. Although the country holds the record for one of the highest temperatures in the world – a scorching 53.5°C. During winter, temperatures can drop to 4°C.

Getting around

Making your way around Pakistan has become much easier in recent years. Much of your travelling can be carried out by bus, which is often the cheapest method of transport. Auto rickshaws are a popular travel option for short distances, the only place you can’t hop on one is Islamabad. However the capital city did see the first ever motorcycle taxi service launched in 2016. Alternatively, take advantage of Pakistan’s rail service or hire a car, to explore the country yourself.
