Visit historical sites
Spectacular Masjid al-Nabawi is built on the site of the Prophet’s home and is a must-visit while in Madinah. Wander the mosque’s remarkable interior – its scale and beauty is incredible. The iconic green Dome of the Prophet rises above the sea of white domes, marking the resting place and sacred tomb of the Holy Prophet. Go here to pay your respects and truly experience this holy destination. Close to the central mosque, you’ll find Hejaz Railway Museum. Explore the Ottoman-style train station and wander through the exhibits of antique train carts and relics. Venture to the outskirts of the city to visit Quba Mosque, thought to be the oldest of its kind in the world. Its first stones are believed to have been laid by the Prophet Muhammad himself. Although rebuilt in the 20th century, the historic building retains some of its original architectural style.
Explore natural wonders
Head north of the city and climb the slopes of Mount Uhud. From the top, you can enjoy brilliant views of the valley below, a burial ground for 70 martyrs who died in the Battle of Uhud. Further out of Madinah, you’ll discover Jabel Magnet - this mystical spot has been puzzling people for years. Gravity is said to have been reversed in this pocket of Saudi mountainside, mysteriously pulling you up the slope. Go there to experience this startling trick of the mind and try it out for yourself.
Indulge with a shopping trip
Soak up the hustle and bustle of the city’s traditional bazaars. Explore the open air markets and pick up souvenirs, including shoes, perfume and local produce.
